Strength Training NOW Not Tomorrow

Strength training now not tomorrow is key for success in the gym and into your life. When you watch this video from the 1982 classic movie Rocky 3 you may get a chuckle out of the idea, but I’m not laughing.


Today we face a growing epidemic of laziness, entitlement and if you scratch my back I’ll scratch yours diseased thinking. As the saying goes, “iron sharpens iron so one person sharpens another.” This problem is being created from a society that teaches get before you give. Take everything you can get and step on the person below you to do it – WRONG!

So how do we fix this massive problem?

Switch your thinking that before you can build you must lay a foundation upon which you wish to build. Lets use the analogy of building fire and then take that analogy into the gym to help with understanding.


As I type this blog post I’m sitting next to a wood stove and a well built fire. This may sound like a no brainer, but in the process of building a fire you need to give fuel before heat is returned. And it just so happens that wood is one of the key ingredients that will allow fire. If you want a hotter fire, you need to give more wood to the flame. If you procrastinate on building the fire, it will die. 


If we take this idea into the gym and train with the intent on getting progressively better, you will. If you procrastinate and wait for another day or another time all you will ever get is another day or another time.


Before you know it, months, years, and decades will have passed and the goal that you have always wanted to reach has died. So the focus is on you and what you are willing to do to reach your goal. Decide NOW that there is no tomorrow and that you need to start seriously considering what you want to do. It doesn’t have to be a major jump into the deep end either.


Just start small and before you know it the thing that you have decided to do will control you into taking action. All motivation, strength and power will be given to you when you truly make the decision to start. 


In training, there should be no hesitation when you’re dealing with the iron. It’s go all the time, no matter what, one hundred percent effort. You should have such an extreme focus about what you are doing that nothing will stand in your way.


Anything short of this and your results will be minimized. Keep in mind that I’m not saying that you should train out of control. Always train under control, but with extreme intensity and you will find the results you have been looking for. Train NOW and don’t wait for tomorrow because there is no tomorrow.
